The Anatomy of Fear

Fear has many faces. It’s important for you to get to know them all so that they may be brought into the light of your conscious awareness and dissipated from your vibrational density. Vibrational Transformation dissolves the fear that keeps you trapped in separation – separation from self, from others and from the Divine within you.
Fear is a physical sensation induced by a real or perceived threat. It’s a basic survival response that occurs in reaction to a stimulus, such as crossing paths with a lion as you walk through the bush, seeing a tornado bear down on your home, or finding out your mother-in-law is visiting next week.
In nature, animals will experience fear and often run, or resort to some other built in defense mechanism, until the perceived threat is gone. They will then shake it out of their bodies, release the charge, and move on with the rest of their day. What’s different about most of us is that once we experience a fearful event we tend to hold on to the emotion and store it away in our cells… sometimes for years.
What’s fascinating about fear is that it almost always relates to future events. Check it for yourself. When was the last time you felt fear… or maybe there’s something you fear right now. Maybe you have a fear for your health, or the health of a loved one. Maybe you have fear of losing your job, or bouncing a check. Maybe the last time you felt fear was when you handed your car keys to your teenage son.
Notice that in all of these cases, the fear is about the future, not the present moment. You fear for your future health or the worsening of your present condition (in the future). Your fear about losing your job is in the future – if you fear losing a job it probably means you have one right now. Has that check bounced yet? Has anything happened yet in that moment you’re handing your keys over?
Rarely, if ever, does fear actually belong in the present moment. Indeed, whenever I work with someone experiencing fear, I immediately check to see if they’re living in the present moment or thinking about some future event or situation. Inevitably I find that they’re thinking about the future, missing the beauty of the moment they’re in right here, right now.
For the most part, people allow fear to govern their daily interactions and, as a result, because we as individuals inform the collective experience, fear dominates the collective.
So many of us live in a chronic state of fear, or stress and stress causes 85% of all disease in this country. It’s an insidious emotion that is most often not based in reality and keeps you from living a life of peace, calm, harmony and oneness
So unless you’re standing face to face with a lion, in the eye of a real storm, or going at it head-to-head with your mother-in-law, the next time you feel fear arising within you, bring yourself back to the present moment, breathe, ask yourself if there’s actually a “lion” that you need to run from or do battle with, and you’ll inevitably find that the only thing you really need to do is simply breathe once again.
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

I become fearful on an airplane during turbulance. My palms get all sweaty and I have a hard time concentrating on what is on my iPod. I do not care for the sensation, so I have been avoiding flying. I’ve traveled all over the world with my job and spent a great deal of time in airplanes. I am no longer traveling for business and tend to avoid it personally. I am willing however to fly to Orlando for 11-11-11. I think it would be interesting to see how I do on the flight with the tools you’ve given me during our Kripalu sessions. The abundance I need to attend has not happened yet, but I can feel it coming our way. Your loving comments and thoughts are welcome, I appreciate this opportunity to share my thoughts. I am living from moment to moment and I know that my divine being is gently guiding my every step of the way home.

I am experiencing the fear of not being able to make my mortgage payments as I was recently changed to a job that makes about half the money that I was making and I do not know what to do. So I breath and stay in the moment.

I laughed at the mother-in-law comment. It comparison to tornado’s and other disasters held comic relief for me. You are a masterful blogger!

I’m going to try not to cry right now because this is exactly what I have been dealing with and needed to hear. I have been experiencing so much fear, almost overwhelming, and have forgotten to stay present, remind myself the present is safe, and remember it is just an emotion which will pass (all things I gratefully learned from you at Omega in July).
I even began questioning whether this preponderance of fear was an energy shift I was experiencing in preparation for the seminar with you this weekend. Like a prodromal event?
It doesn’t matter. I just need to remember to check in with the moment and know that fear is just a frequency of energy like any other and will pass…
Now i think I’ll go “shake off the energy” with a cleansing cry…..
